Not only will you reduce your electricity bills, adding solar panels will increase your property value.

Take advantage of nature’s renewable energy

Solar panels are low to no maintenance and are built to stand up to Alberta’s climate – including snow, hail, wind and rain. Bottom line, adding solar panels saves you money, increases your property value, and is good for the environment.

How solar panels work

Solar panels collect the sun's energy. This captured energy is then converted into usable energy for your home – for your electronics and appliances such as computers, TVs, smartphones.

You can use the renewable energy your home generates to provide clean, carbon-free energy for your e-bikes, e-scooters, and electric vehicles.

Any surplus energy is exported to the local electrical grid and generates additional income for you.

You’ve got questions. We’ve got answers.

  • Your home’s solar potential is not significantly affected by warm weather, but rather sunlight. Calgary is ranked #1 as Canada's sunniest city and Edmonton is #2. Despite their geographical location, both Calgary and Edmonton get over 300 days of sunshine annually. As an added bonus, Alberta’s cold weather helps solar panels perform better due to increased conductivity. In fact, Alberta's solar potential, which averages over 1200kWh of electricity per kW of solar panels per year, exceeds that of both Rio de Janeiro and Rome.

  • Short answer. Nothing. Your solar panels won't generate any power when covered in snow. But that is taken into account when determining your anticipated annual production. The days your solar panels are unable to produce power due to snow coverage are factored into your energy offset. The snow will fall off as the temperature increases, and together with rainfall, cleaning and maintenance of your panels is not required.

  • Good news, solar panels are highly durable and can withstand Alberta’s varied weather conditions – including snow, rain, wind, hail, and other natural elements. Solar panels are built tough and come with a 25-year warranty from the manufacturer, plus a 5-year installation warranty – ensuring any necessary replacements will be covered.

  • Once your solar panels have been installed, you’ll be able to access the Energy Monitoring and Analysis software. Comprehensive web-based monitoring provides real-time data that lets you analyze and report the performance of your solar panel system.

  • The amount you can save on electricity bills with solar panels depends on various factors – the size of your solar panel system, your energy consumption, and the cost of electricity in your area. Talk to your Brookfield representative to get an estimate on annual savings.

  • Brookfield Residential offers three different options for adding solar to your home - 6 panels, 10 panels and 20 panels.

All three options include all engineering, permitting, and provincial micro-generation approval. Each package comes standard with production monitoring, 5-year craftsmanship warranty from Zeno Renewables, and applicable manufacturer warranties of at least 25 years performance on every panel.

  • If you have less than a 20% down payment on your new home you’ll have to get CMHC mortgage loan insurance. Solar panels will provide you with a 25% savings on this insurance.

    Example:

On a $500,000 purchase price with 5% down payment $25,000, CMHC mortgage loan insurance will be $19,000. Adding solar panels will save you $4,750 – 25% of the cost of the $19,000 mortgage loan insurance.
