About the Essential Home

From faucets that save water to lights that save electricity, homes built with our Essential Home Package are BUILT GREEN® certified to reduce your energy and bills. Here, sustainable living is both a luxury and standard.

ABOUT BUILT GREEN®

*The EnerGuide rating is a standardized measurement used in Canada to assess the energy efficiency of homes. It takes into consideration   factors of the home like insulation, windows, heating/cooling systems, appliances and air tightness. The value is an estimate of the net amount   of energy your house consumes in a year, so the lower the number, the better energy performance of the home.

*This energy package is designed to be up to 15% more energy efficient than the 2023 Alberta Building Code standards. However, individual results may vary based on household usage and habits. Achieving optimal energy efficiency is contingent upon choosing the standard selections included with your home purchase. Non-standard upgrades or modifications may impact your home’s energy efficiency. Items included in the packages  are subject to change without notice. E&OE.

You’ve got questions. We’ve got answers.
+ -Alberta is often cold. Is solar feasible?
Your home’s solar potential is not significantly affected by warm weather, but rather sunlight. Calgary is ranked #1 as Canada's sunniest city and Edmonton is #2. Despite their geographical location, both Calgary and Edmonton get over 300 days of sunshine annually. As an added bonus, Alberta’s cold weather helps solar panels perform better due to increased conductivity. In fact, Alberta's solar potential, which averages over 1200kWh of electricity per kW of solar panels per year, exceeds that of both Rio de Janeiro and Rome.
+ -What happens to my solar panels when it snows?
Short answer. Nothing. Your solar panels won't generate any power when covered in snow. But that is taken into account when determining your anticipated annual production. The days your solar panels are unable to produce power due to snow coverage are factored into your energy offset. The snow will fall off as the temperature increases, and together with rainfall, cleaning and maintenance of your panels is not required.
+ -What happens to my solar panels when it hails?
Good news, solar panels are highly durable and can withstand Alberta’s varied weather conditions – including snow, rain, wind, hail, and other natural elements. Solar panels are built tough and come with a 25-year warranty from the manufacturer, plus a 5-year installation warranty – ensuring any necessary replacements will be covered.
+ -What does it mean to be Net Zero?
Net Zero homes in Alberta are the champions of sustainability. They're built to use energy wisely and even create their own clean power. This not only protects the environment but also puts an estimated $2,500 back into your pocket every year.
+ -What is the CHMC Eco Plus rebate and can I get it?
New single-family homes certified as BUILT GREEN® Gold, Platinum, or Net Zero Energy+ may qualify for a 25% refund on your mortgage loan insurance premium. Contact your Brookfield Sales Representative to find out if your new home is eligible.
